A wide range of industrial products – such as bulk powders, tablets, granules, grains, wire products, pastes and non-hazardous liquids – can be packed and transported in fibre drums.
They have been a favourite for decades in the chemical, pharmaceutical, paint, glue, food, waste and wire and cable industries.
The drums can be lined with PE, alufoil, foam or other materials to protect delicate products; or can be fitted with cores for containing wire and cable. External branding can be applied with screen printing or digitally printed wraps.
Fibre drums can be certified for the transport of dangerous goods in the categories PG I, II & III (the same ratings as steel and plastic drums).
In fact, fibre drums are ideal for flammable solids like pharmaceutical powders, metal powders, extractor dust, pigments or ink powders. Special designs can incorporate safety mechanisms such as a liner with a sampling arm, to contain hazardous dust during filling, emptying and sample-taking. Liners can also prevent build-up of dangerous static charge in contents, which could ignite an explosion, making lined fibre drums good for explosive areas.
The drums themselves are electrostatically inert and provide a UV barrier to prevent degradation of products by UV light.
These are only some of the applications of fibre drums, which are really as versatile as their plastic and steel alternatives. If you are unsure about whether they are suitable for your product, just contact your local SEFFI manufacturer, who will be happy to discuss solutions.
